The duration of primary care doctors in 67 countries around the world ranges from 48 seconds in Bangladesh to 22.5 minutes in Sweden. On average, half the planet's population can not count more than 5 minutes of doctor attention. To this conclusion were the authors of a study published in BMJ, wrote Reuters.

The researchers studied 178 works devoted to the duration of medical examinations and compiled in 67 countries. It turned out that in 18 countries where about half of the world's population lives on, the reception of a specialist in the primary link lasts less than 5 minutes. In 25 countries, the duration of the medical examination is up to 10 minutes.

The authors noted that in developed countries, consultations are gradually increasing. So, in the United States, the duration of admission to a doctor increased annually by 12 seconds and now is equal to 20 minutes. At the same time, in counties with low and middle income, the duration of counseling on the contrary is decreasing, which is due to the increasing number of patients. In China, for example, the doctor gives the patient an average of 2 minutes.

According to scientists, the small duration of a doctor's review reduces the quality of medical care and increases the risk of burnout of health workers. As for the patient's satisfaction, it does not depend heavily on the duration of the consultation. "Even if the patient is given 30-40 minutes of medication time, there is no guarantee that the patient will be satisfied," said one of the study's authors Dr Irving.
